About

Hi! My name is Natalie Diaz and I am a 3rd grade teacher from sunny [let's be honest, sizzling] Miami, Florida. I am a 7th year full-time teacher and I am loving every minute of it. So far, I have been lucky to test the waters in a number of different grade levels.

After graduating with my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 2008, it was difficult to find a full-time teaching position. However, soon after graduation, I was lucky to land a 3100 position as a temporary teacher in a first grade classroom. The firsties were awesome. I couldn't get enough of how loving and full of energy they were. Afterwards, I dabbled in substituting and working as a paraprofessional until I was finally able to land a full-time position at a brand new charter school in 2010. There, I had the opportunity to teach third grade for two and a half years. Those two and a half years were amazing. Each day was a new learning experience. Thanks to the administration that supported every crazy idea I came up with, I was able to spread my wings and try a number of teaching ideas. I feel like those years helped me to grow professionally and discover my way as a teacher.

In 2013, I received an incredible offer to return as a first grade teacher to the school in which I had worked as an after care counselor, paraprofessional for the gifted, and not to mention, an intern. Needless to say, it is a school that holds a special place in my heart. I was ecstatic to be headed "home" once again although it was bittersweet to leave all the teachers that had grown so dear to me behind. Soon after my return, I was fortunate to be asked to join the gifted program as a second grade teacher. I taught 2nd grade for three years and will be moving on up to teach 3rd grade gifted next year.

So, here I am, year seven, and still bursting with energy. Ready to learn and try new teaching strategies! I know that many people think my enthusiasm is accredited to my youth, but I know that is not the case. I have had an affair with learning (that I attribute to my mother and select teachers) since I was a child, that I believe will continue throughout my lifetime.

Now that you know a little bit about my teaching history, let me let you in on a little bit of my family history...

I am a Miami, Florida native (born and raised) with Latin roots. Both my parents and grandparents were born in Cuba. However, further back in my family tree, I have family members that stem from Puerto Rico, Spain, and even Italy. I am very close to my parents and cherish them both greatly. My mother is my best friend and I love spending time with her. As I previously mentioned, I owe much of my curiosity for learning and reading to her. As a child, she always encouraged me to read  independently, with her, or at the library. I'll never forget reading 1,001 cumulative pages with my mother for the first grade "Book It" contest and later reading novels with her as a teen. I'll also never forget all the pen-pals she helped me find as a child that inspired my curiosity for and love of travel and different cultures. I am thankful that I still have my mother to support me and share memories with. Now, she supports me by making cute clipart for all of my TPT products. You can check out her growing TPT store {HERE}.

Speaking of mothers, I recently became a mother to a beautiful baby girl. She is the best gift I have ever received and I feel so lucky to have been chosen to be her mom. I look forward to many years of adventures with my little one and hope that I can be as amazing of a mother to my daughter as my own mother is to me. I hope to inspire her, strengthen her, protect her, and most importantly love her for all the days of my life. I have one older brother, Edward, who is married my wonderful sister-in-law, Amanda (who is also a teacher) and twin nieces and nephews Edward and Amelia.

I love to travel, go fishing or cruising on our boat, watch T.V. and movies (I am obsessed with too many shows), browse Pinterest, TPT, or blogs for original teaching ideas, make my own teaching materials (check out my growing TPT store {HERE},or just hang out at home with my daughter or my family.

I am a mother, daughter, sister, godmother, teacher, travel fanatic, reader, lifelong learner and so much more. I hope you have enjoyed learning a little more about me. Thank you for sharing in my love of teaching and learning.
